adult literacy project ^

Among the Bhil adivasi people, more than 80% of them are illiterate.  For that, they have reasons galore.  Due to lack of literacy, they do not know the first thing about many worldly things in this growing scientific age.  Having been immersed in age-old foolish customs and ignorance, they have spent their lives in robbing others of their possessions, indulging in drinking alcoholic drinks and drunken brawls.  At present, after having received Jesus as their personal savior, they have got freedom from sins and diseases and thousands of people have been worshipping the Lord.

Adivasi believers who have received the Lord have started loving the Bible and buying it with great fervor.  By the grace of God, more than 12000 copies of the Bible  have been sold at subsidized prices.  But, a great many were those who felt sorry that they could not read the Bible and that they had been illiterate.  Dr. Chiranjeevi and Dr. Kamala inspected our mission-fields in all the three states in June2001.  In order to launch the project for the elderly people, they conducted training in 150 villages for 150 trainees, each being selected from every village.  Following this, one year training was given for every 30 trainees in every village.  Thus, this training took place in 150 villages.  Then, in the following years, thanks to the divine grace, the project was extended to around 450 villages where 600 centres were selected  for the completion of the project.  Consequently,  more than 40000 villagers and believers developed an awareness of the matters regarding education, medicine, society and economics etc.,  We witness these people, being reformed in the society.  They have not only been weaned off such negative habits, but also from age-old foolish local customs.

In addition to these things, they have got into the habit of sending their children to school and reading Bible, particularly, most of the wives of the native workers have learnt many passages  in the Scriptures by heart.  Especially, they  have learnt to recite Psalm 119 from memory.  They have been made to work all the harder to come up to a higher standard in the society.  The Lord has blessed all their efforts.  Pray that we would put them into operation continuously.
