Sis.Vahitha Devadoss

    Dedicated Myself

If the Lord has chosen me and is using me, it is really His plan. I was born on 15th March, 1963 to Mr.Arulraj and Mrs.Grace Arulraj as their eldest daughter. My maternal grandma, Mrs. Martha Moses, used say that the Lord had revealed to her even before my birth that I would be Hepzibah(the Lord would be pleases with you) and do ministry. Whenever I went to their house in Nazareth, she would tell about the lives of missionaries like Rev.Margoschis and Rev.Ragland and induced in me the thirst for missionary work. I was brought up in the Christian discipline and faith and at the same time I was loved by my parents. From my young age I had a heart that loved Jesus very much. I would also delight in praising the Lord through songs.

In 1976 I took part in the youth meeting that took place at Kottaram in Nagercoil, During the time of ‘Santhiya’ I had the blessing of seeing the face of Jesus. I began to sob and was saved. The Lord strengthened me by talking to me through the verse: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is my strength of my life; of whom shall I afraid?” (Psalm27.1). That very moment I committed myself for missionary work.

That year I was sent to take part in the VBS Directors’ Training through the CSI church at Arumuganeri. As soon as I came from the training, they entrusted into my care some 300 children. Then I was filled with the burden of their souls. I began to work prayerfully with the intention of leading them into salvation within next 10 days. The Lord listened to my prayer and fulfilled my desires. I was filled with the burden of the souls.

Though I wanted to do ministry, I attended college, as my parents desired it. During the holidays I used to act as a volunteer in the Youth Camps conducted by Youth for Christ. But I frequently suffered from wheezing. One day it became so severe that I had to take two injections. That day my mother also prayed with the vow to send me for ministry in case I was delivered from the disease. I went delivered from the disease. I went to hospital for two days. Yet that night there was a meeting conducted by Bro.Mohan.C.Lazarus at Arumuganeri. I attended it with suffering. When Brother prayed, the Lord gave me a miraculous healing. That very day I was delivered from the physical illness. I committed my self to live for the Lord who gave me life, healing and strength.

All of a sudden my father fell ill and my family went through a financial crisis. A situation came that demanded that I should work for the good of the family. As I was qualified in Telephone and Wireless Operator course, my mother took efforts to get me appointed. At this time my pastor, Rev.Gandhi Selwyn advised me to go as a missionary to Orissa. Immediately I committed myself to work as a missionary. My parents also committed me with tears. I joined Indian Missionary Society and had training. On the third day I received an appointment order for the post of Telephone operator. Which one to choose, ministry or worldly job? I decided to do the noblest work of serving the Lord and tore up the appointment order and threw it away.

In 1983 I went to Orissa to work as a missionary in Malkangiri. I worked there for two years among the Goya and the Santhali tribes. The Lord gave me the opportunity to minister in these villages cycling. I had the chance work in the Adivasi children. I happily accepted the discipline there and I worked joyfully under Rev.Paul Jeyaraj. I prayed that I should do the Lord’s ministry and continue to live gloriously for the Lord. The Lord accepted my prayer.

On 8th July 1985, I was married to Bro.V.Devadoss who was serving as a missionary in Bihar in FMPB. Really it was God’s plan to unite us together as we had committed to work among the Bhil Adivasi tribes. The Lord who called us is faithful. He would do accordingly. He has been faithful to us for the last 20 years in our lives and in the ministry among the Bhil Adivasi people. The Lord has blessed us with three children – Mr.D.Gladson Titus (I B.B.A.,), studying in Loyola college at Chennai, Mas.D.Brighton Shalom (IX) and Miss. D.Joy Shekinah(VIII). They are studying in Blessing Matric Hr. Sec. School – Chengalpatt.

 All Glory to God!
