Sis. Vahitha Devadoss ^

I DEDICATED MYSELF ….-         Sis. Vahitha Devadoss

If God has chosen me and is using me to do His service, it is definitely His will. I was born on Mrs. Grace. My maternal grandmother Mrs.Martha Moses of Nazareth used to tell my mother and me that God had revealed that my name was Hepzibah (God loves you) and that I would be a missionary. Moreover whenever I went to Nazareth, she used to tell me the history of great missionaries like Margosius and Ragland. This stimulated the thirst for mission work in me. I was brought up as a loving daughter, fearing God and praising God through songs.

In 1976, I participated in a youth camp organized at Kottaram, Nagercoil. I got a vision of Christ’s face. What a blessing! I started weeping without my knowledge and I received the Holy Spirit. Jesus spoke to me through these words and strengthened me: ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?(Psalm 27:1) At that moment I dedicated myself to the service of Christ.

The same year, I was sent from the Arumuganeri CSI Church to attend the VBS Director’s Training. When I saw that I had 300 children to guide, I was filled with the spiritual zeal. With the desire to lead the children towards God within 10 days, I started my work with prayers. God listened to my prayers. I was filled further with spiritual zeal.

Though I have the urge for mission work, I pursued my college education as per my parents’ wish. During holidays, I used to go as a volunteer in the YFC (Youth for Christ) youth camp and do service. I was ailing from wheezing in those days. One day, my ailment aggravated and I had to be given two injections per day. My mother vowed to send me for missionary service if I got well. I was under medication for 2 days. The next night I attended a meeting of Bro.Mohan.C.Lazarus at Kayalpattinam. God gave me a miraculous recovery. I was free from all ailments. I dedicated my life to the one who gave me life and strength.

My father’s unexpected sickness made us financially weak and I was forced to shoulder the responsibility of the family. Since I had finished a Telephone wireless Operator course, my mother tried a lot to find a job for me. At the same time, our Pastorate pastor Rev.Gandhi Selwyn asked me to go to Orissa to do missionary work. I accepted it whole heartedly and my parents too offered to send me. On the 3rd day of my training at the IMS, I received the appointment order as a Telephone Operator. For a moment, I was in a dilemma but then I decided to do full time missionary work and tore the Appointment order to pieces.

I went to Malkangiri in Orissa in 1983 and served as a missionary. I used to go by bicycle to meet the Goya and Sandhali people once a week. Not only that, I preached God’s word to the tribal children at Malkangiri. I accepted happily and followed the code of conduct and rules given by the chief Pastor.Rev.Paul Jeyaraj. I prayed to God earnestly to make me lead a spiritual life in future too. God answered my prayers.

On July 8, 1985 I was married to Bro.Devadoss who was working as on FMPB missionary at Bihar. This plan to unite us both who were working amidst tribes, was a really a predestined one. For the past 16 years, we have been doing his service amidst the Bhil tribe. God has blessed our married life with three children Titus, Shalom & Shekinah. Glory to God.
