Shalom Early days ^

For who hath despised the day of small things?

Shalom ministry made a humble beginning on 01.07.1991 at Jhalod in Gujarat, we cannot forget the days when we were shaped and prepared by God.

14.10.1979 – I (Bro.V.Devadoss) received salvation

04.11.1979 -  The Lord called me by name and revealed His plan for me. He anointed me with       the Holy spirit

07.11.1981 – I dedicated myself for full time ministry.

04.01.1982 – From 04.01.1982 to 31.07.1985, I joined FMPB and underwent Bible training to serve in  North India.

08.07.1985 – I was married to a missionary Sis.Vahitha by name.

01.08.1985 – For 5 years, upto 30.06.1990, we served the Bhils and led many souls to Christ and formed many pastorates.

01.07.90 to 15.12.1990 – Underwent  social service training in EFICOR

29.12.1990 – Through ‘Jesus Redeems’ Nalumavadi, Shalom ministry was dedicated.  I underwent one month Health and Rural Development Training in CMC RUHSA

22.02.91 – We reached Gujarat.

01.07.1990 – Until we reached Jhalod, we had to undergo a lot of struggles and we had to face many hardships.

When IMS prepared to send us, we sacrificed all our belongings.  We requested IMS to have us under them.  Then we planned to go to Jhalod.  Since my wife was near the completion of her pregnancy term, we got the permission for the help of a boy, Amar Singh.

God gifted us a daughter, Sharon, whom we had been longing for.  My sons Titus and Shalom were very happy.  But on 24-06-1991, she fell sick all of a sudden. There was no medical facility available at that time.  When we were waiting at the bus-stand to go to Baroda, we found that Sharon was no more.  We buried her at the graveyard of missionaries of IP Mission.  When our sons questioned us about Sharon, we said that God gave her to us and God has taken her.  God consoled their tender hearts.  There was none other than God to console us.

We did not have a proper dwelling place.  Finally, we got a haunted house at Jhalod.  It had once been a church.  But since there were no Christians, it had been sold for Rs.2000/- and it had become residential.  Since many of the people who had stayed there died, it was called a haunted house.

On 01-07-1991, we were praying at home.  We were depressed on the one hand, because of Sharon’s demise and on the other hand, because of our financial problem.  God made his presence felt during our prayer.  He said,” Do not be worried about Baby. Sharon.  She is with me.  Since this is the chosen field, I will give you thousands of families.  Through miracles, I will reveal myself to the Bhils.  Our sorrows vanished and we started our meeting the following Friday.

During the first week meeting, Ramsingh Bai’s family who used prepare liquor and Savji Bai, a magician’s family came to us for prayer.  They were freed from 21 years of bondage from evil spirits.  Following their testimony, 20 persons came the next week.  Many blind got sight, the deaf were able to hear, the sick got healed.  People got relief from evil spirits.  Following this 50-60 people attended the meetings.

After 4 months Bro.G.P.S.Robinson came to Jhalod and conducted special meetings.  Around 85 persons attended the meetings.  Many miracles occurred.  In the meeting  at night in our house, many believers especially my wife were filled with the Holy Spirit.

God started making use of the native evangelists.  Service bands were organized in 14 villages.  We conducted the first Christmas Mela in 1991.  For the first time, 300 persons came to know   about the birth of Christ and its significance.  They celebrated Christmas in  its true spirit.

In July 1992, seven native evangelists dedicated themselves.  In 12 months, 500 persons accepted Christ as their personal saviour.  We were amazed at our progress in the following years.  It is definitely God’s grace.  Praise the Lord!
